FAQ:

Q: I don’t have a mic or don’t want to speak. Is it okay if I just join to listen and learn?
A: Absolutely! This event is entirely free and everyone is welcome to join.

Q: What’s the purpose of reading through TV pilots?
A: If you want to become skilled at writing pilots, you’ve got to read tons of pilots and write lots of pilots. You’ll learn the many ways you can set up your world and your characters for your own spec pilot projects. And as you read comedies, dramedies, procedurals, and hour-long dramas, etc, you’ll see there’s no single way to develop and write a pilot episode. Yes, there’s a general format and structure, but the best thing that you can do is read as many pilot scripts as you can to internalize the structure and see what works. Then following the readthrough, we’ll chat about what you liked or disliked. How did the writer introduce the central character and core cast? How did they introduce the story world without overwhelming the audience with backstory? Did the pilot introduce a “template” for future episodes? How did the writer convey the story engine and the proper tone?
