Mystery Class (June 15, 2022)

“Nobody reads a mystery to get to the middle. They read it to get to the end. If it’s a letdown, they won’t buy anymore. The first page sells that book. The last page sells your next book.” — MICKEY SPILLANE

Do you love a good mystery? Does your main character need to solve a murder or investigate something shady? You may be surprised to discover many of your favorite movies and shows from other genres also incorporate mystery plot elements.

Big and small mysteries provide the incentive for the reader to keep reading, no matter the genre. If there’s nothing for the reader to figure out, or no question that needs an answer, your story loses its mystique.

Join Conor for a live two-hour interactive Mystery class designed to teach you the techniques you need to know to keep readers on the edge of their seats. Learn how to plant irresistible dramatic questions, while layering concealed clues in a trail of breadcrumbs and red herrings.

Conor Kyle has written for Shudder’s Creepshow (2019) and placed twice in the Nicholl Fellowship with his scripts “Peter and the Wolves” (quarterfinals, also Launchpad top 10) and The Tube (semifinals). His screenplays have also been featured on the annual Hit List, Young & Hungry List, Spec Book, and on Tracking Board’s “Best Writers of the Year” booklet. He writes everything from stage musicals to Westerns to horror movies.
